Sucky end to a sweet vacation

Man do I feel bad for my dad. Here's the deal.

Last week, for the 4th of July, my family was gonna spend the week up at Mullett Lake with my mom's whole clan (or just about). I was only able to spend half the week, which I knew well ahead of time, so that was not a big deal. I was supposed to come home on Tuesday last week with my aunt, uncle and cousin.

Well, we left on Saturday to go, but my dad (again, this was known well ahead of time) had to go down to my aunt's in Ohio to spend time with HIS family for the Fourth as well. So while we drove 5 hours north on Saturday, he drove 5 hours south to my aunt's. He was then supposed to come home on Sunday afternoon, then drive up to meet us Sunday night.

Well he gets back on Sunday afternoon and is dead tired. Given his condition, he doesn't want to fall asleep while driving, so he decides to wait a day and drive up the next day, leave EARLY (4:30 am) on the Fourth. As it ends up, he ends up having to drive through the massive rain that seemed to pelt the whole state that day. Gets up there about 9 am on the Fourth. Yay, vacation time, right?

Next morning, again, the day I'm supposed to leave 'cuz I've already been there having fun for two and a half days...Gets a call from the vet where we have our dog kenneled...Derby's "not cooperating"...Isn't eating...Isn't peeing or pooping...For three days...Won't come out of his cage...

Now you'd think this wouldn't be a HUGE deal at this point because I'm going to be home later that night anyways...Even though everyone else seems to think so, my dad isn't so sure that's a good idea...Doesn't think I can handle the dog in that condition by myself, especially given the fact that it took him a while to get used to me around home in the first place...Hence, my dad wouldn't be comfortable worrying about the dog in my care...So instead of driving home with my aunt, uncle and cousin...I end up driving home with my dad, that day...After he spent a whole 28 hours up there...After driving 15 over three days...And now having to go another 5 back home...

I even made the stupid suggestion to him of having my mom go home to take care of the dog then since he hadn't been up there too long, then realizing that yeah, this IS my MOM'S whole family that's up here...

So yeah, my ride home, which would have been perfectly fine and dandy, was now a major bummer. My dad didn't whine or complain or anything like that, but I could tell he was majorly bummed. Especially given the stress he puts up with at work and crap, he gets his week off to enjoy it, and he can't because it gets f'd up. Granted, the circumstances were really no one's fault (okay, you could say it's Derby's, but c'mon, he's just a dog, and my dad sure didn't blame it on him), and he chose to come home and take care of the dog instead of me doing it...But that's what he was comfortable with doing under the circumstances...So yeah, crap happens, sometimes it just happens at the wrong time...

He was happy to see Derby though...The second Derby see's us at the vet, he pisses all over the floor...Pees outside for another 5 minutes...Pees ALL OVER my dad's seat in the Durango on the way home...Pees on and off in the backyard about every minute or so when we get home...I never thought a living being could hold this much piss...I was half in digust, half in amazement, and half in pity for this poor dog who was so scared and saddened for three days at the absence of his "family" that he held in all that piss...His bladder could have fricking burst...

So I felt bad for Derby, and I felt bad for my dad...He just took it easy the rest of the week and spent some time with the dog.

The only other major thing to update about is our get together up near State for our friend Steve. For those of you that don't know him, he's in the National Guard and is being shipped to Kosovo tomorrow, so me and Dave went up there on Friday...And how about this...At home, before we leave, most gas stations were at $2.49 a gallon...

Well, not only did traffic suck along I-96 on the way there, but we get to our exit at Okemos...Cars backed up onto the ramp...Soon onto the freeway itself after we got there...For $.99 gas at the gas station off the exit...Sponsored by some Lansing radio station...We were almost where we were supposed to meet Jake, Tara and Bobby...And we had to sit there on the exit ramp...For a little over a half hour...

But the party was cool. Said bye to Steve (he'll be there for 18 months), then spent the night at Tara and Nattalie's apartment. I slept in till about 1 on Saturday (what else is new), then me and Dave hung out with Jake and Tara all day, which included burgers at Bennigans for lunch, putt-putt, and some serious golf action on old school Sega Genesis, lol. And I learned my suckiness at real life golf transfers over to putt-putt and video games as well. That was about it, then we came home...We got a brief card game going at Gregs which Greg won. I came in third out of six, which is actually the best I've ever finished...Almost won my $5 back...So sad...But anywho...

Can't catch up on everything the last two weeks since I've updated otherwise I'd be here all night, and I gotta' get to bed, so I'll update anything else pertinent later. That's the scoop for now.

Oh yeah, and I'm also getting quite excited, yet sad at going back to school...A very odd mixture of both emotions, for various reasons...More on that later...I'm goin' to bed.
