Still Here

I really have no particular reason for why I've not posted in nearly 4 months. Work has been busy and I have been ill with a cold I just couldn't shake for most of the winter but all in all I can't complain. I still have all my own teeth for a start and who can say fairer than that?

I have recently gotten into the Tudor set Shardlake mystery series by C.J Sansom which I am thoroughly enjoying. It's such a pleasure to get well written, meaty, historical novels that are properly researched.

I was at home for a week in February for the Glasgow Film Festival and can hightly recommend the upcoming Lady Macbeth which I described as 'both wonderfully lush and sparse at the the same time' on Twitter after seeing it. Neruda (starring everyone's favourite tiny Mexican; Gael Garcia Bernal) was 'whimsical but never mawkish' and Mindhorn which was oodles of 80's TV nostalgia fun. Free Fire was also part of the festival line up but I waited until general release to see it this weekend. Much like Wheatley's High Rise it was very much style over substance, although even more so than High Rise was. Enjoyable but utterly disposable and I am not convinved that's actually what he's aiming for.

The 'summer blockbuster'season seems to now officially start in March although not much has tickled my fancy as of yet. I did see, and loved to absolutely bits, Logan. The fanboy behind me let out a strangeld sob towards the denouncment and as I was ugly crying with snot everywhere I was in no position to judge! The plot was pure cliche but Jackman and Stewart pulled it off with heartbreaking panache and Dafnee Keen gave a performance that would put actors 20 years older than her to shame.

Finally I am watching the new series of The Last Kingdom and while Uthred's acting hasn't improved he's still just as pretty. So that's okay.
