Two Weeks To Go!

Before the most boring month of the year is over!

I have been watching Rome on DVD and am following it up with I Claudius. My main point is I was most amused by the fact that Ray Stevenson as Titus Pullo occasionally finishes off a sentence with 'innit'.

I finally made it to see Sherlock Holmes last week. Overall I enjoyed it, particularly the ( Read more... )

Rome
Worth a watch? I completely missed it when it was on.

I, Claudius
I'm a _huge_fan of I, Claudius. Saw a lot of it when it was first on in the 70's, I was far too young, my mother should never have let me watch it ;) Read the books several times but only re-watched the series last year. It's still amazing (esp Sian Richards). Very powerful, very dark. Also couldn't help noticing that it's almost entirely dialogue.

Btw have you read Miranda Seymour's biography of Graves? It's brilliant. The man was completely barking, and as for Laura Riding....man what a scary woman!

Dare I ask if you've read The White Goddess? I managed four chapters before giving up. First two chapters were incredible and the rest incomprehensible! To me anyway ;)

I love Rome, I treated myself to the boxset with money I got for Christmas. It's very well acted and visually you can almost smell the streets of Rome. It also boasts the epic bromance of Lucius Vorenus and Titus Pollo.

I saw I Claudius for the fist time last year and loved it, although I've not been able to take John Hurt seriously since seeing him in gold hotpants. :P I think you mean Sian Phillips though and yes, she is amazining in it. I keep meaning to write a fic where Horatio meets Archie's mother at a do years after Kingston and I was going to base her on Livia. Not quite as evil as Livia but with that same 'don't fuck with me' attitude. She'd have Horatio's numner alright.

I've never read anything either by or about Graves, although I usually find people that are barking make for the more interesting biographies.

Isn't it amazing?

That's not going to help me focus on this afternoon's meeting ;)

Aye, that's the one ;) And you've so got to write that fic. What an amazing idea.

You'd love it! Graves is positively howling!

Apologies for spamming this post but thought tonight's random internet discovery might be of interest. There is an episode of I Claudius called A touch of murder that includes a character called Lucius, played by one Russell Lewis. That's the same Mr Lewis who wrote the screenplay for The Even Chance and therefore presumably also created Mr Archie Kennedy. How about that?!

Sorry. I'll go away now ;)
