Two Weeks To Go!

Before the most boring month of the year is over!

I have been watching Rome on DVD and am following it up with I Claudius. My main point is I was most amused by the fact that Ray Stevenson as Titus Pullo occasionally finishes off a sentence with 'innit'.

I finally made it to see Sherlock Holmes last week. Overall I enjoyed it, particularly the banter between Holmes and Watson. I did think there were pacing problems but I attribute that to Ritchie being a hack. At times Downey JR was a bit too comic. He can play darker, he should have been advised to but again I blame Ritchie. I enjoyed Jude Law's performance a lot though, and I usually can't stand him.

In the past week I've read An Utterly Exasperated History of Modern Britain by John O'Farrell which was a fun read and told me several things I didn't know, especially about the pre-80's period. A particularly amusing bit of commentary re Tony Blair's enthusiasm for interventionism in foreign policy from the author was that it was only a surprise he didn't want to invade Narnia to depose the White Which.

I also read Wise Children by Angela Carter. Whenever I read Carter's work I can't help thinking, "God, my writing sucks." Wise Children is exactly the sort of thing I wish I could write, something comic and slightly macabre.

I was genuinely creeped out by the Annie plot line and there were several one liners that made me laugh. My main problem with last week was the emphasis on George and Nina, both of whom I find boring while Nina actively gets on my nerves. As did Scottish!Bad Actress!Vampire! last week. I also have little interest in the poor man's Initiative, hell, I didn't have any interest in the shiny well funded Initiative on Buffy.
