Hornblower Fan Fiction Author's Notes and Master List
My entry point for Hornblower is the 1998-2003 TV series and while I use book canon facts for future fics, to varying degrees depending on the fic, the TV series is my main canon.
My fic is almost exclusively Horatio/Archie fic. It frequently involves other characters and other relationships but Horatio/Archie is a constant and recurring theme.
Below is a list of the specific types of fic that are to be found here.
Character Drama - My view of Horatio/Archie is that, while they undoubtedly love each other, sometimes love isn't enough. I'd describe it as bittersweet and melancholy; rather than 'dark'.
Comedy/Crack - Most of my comedy fic centres around an elderly Horatio and Archie living together in London with their adored pet King Charles spaniel Bartholomew. Mr. Bush and Major My Lord Edrington make frequent appearences, as does the extended Kennedy family.
Modern AU - This started life as one AU fic where Horatio and Archie were in a present day sixth form college and has taken on a life of its own. The aim is to take the characters and events and set them in the modern world. It's more optimistic in tone than my character drama fic although lacks any mention of stockings and breeches. Not Quite Like Pretty Women is set in the modern world but is not part of the main modern AU canon. It was a stray idea that aimed to look at Horatio's ambition and Archie's survival instinct.
Crossovers - It amuses me to make other characters Jamie Bamber and Ioan Gruffudd play incarnations of Archie and Horatio.
