This can be a quick one. Don't take too long to think about it. Fifteen books you've read that will always stick with you. First fifteen you can recall in no more than 15 minutes.

1. Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte, I read it for the first time when I was about 15/16 and the whole gothic romance appealed to my teenage sensibilities, the black nail polish was also a clue to those sensibilities.

2. The Color Purple by Alice Walker, the first 'grown up' book I ever read, I think I was about 11/12.

3. Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier, I'm sensing a Gothicy romance theme here.

4. Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice, again read in my mid teens and where I discovered slash, even though I wasn't quite sure that's what it was.

5. I, Lucifer by Glen Duncan, I should be worried I agree with so much of Lucifer's world view, shouldn't I?

6. Brideshead Revisted by Evelyn Waugh, I only read this last year and I'm sorry I waited so long, I'm sure teenage me would have adored it too.

7. War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy, just cause I finished it.

8. Letters from a Stoic by Seneca, I read it near the end of completing my PhD, it felt like appropriate reading at the time.

9. The Periodic Table by Primo Levi, because it's always good to pick up a book on a whim cause it sounds cool and discover a new writer to love.

10. Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood. Atwood's best work IMO, I literally couldn't put it down, even when burning up with fever.

11. Wicked by Gregory Maguire. A book I discovered years ago browsing Waterstone's and was one of those "This is the book I've been waiting for!" moments.

12. American Gods by Neil Gaiman, because I loved mythology when I was a kid.

13. Rock Me Amadeus by Seb Hunter, a book about classical music. I can not say how much I love this book enough.

14. A Tale of Love and Darkness by Amos Oz, because families are the same all over the world. It's everything a memoir should be, funny, tear inducing and reflective.

15. Nicholas and Alexandra by Robert K. Massie, I have a shelf full of Russian Imperial history books thanks to this one.
