H.C. Andersen I En Queer Tid', by Jens Galschiøt
Jens Galschiøt has made a new sculpture, this time of
H.C. Andersen with boobs. It's made in collaboration with the Golf club 'Odense Eventyr Golf' ('Odense's Fairy Tale Golf') in connection with the golf tournament 'Pink Golf', which is a happening to collect money to fighting breast cancer. It's based upon the Venus from Milo and the famous portrait Vilhelm Bissen made of H.C. Andersen back in 1864.
It's called "H.C. Andersen I En Queer Tid" (H.C. Andersen in A Queer Time) and is - or that's my impression anyway, based upon
this (Danish) interview - inspired by the question, "how would H.C. Andersen behave in modern times?" H.C. Andersen's sexuality is a discussed subject, but there's no doubt that he wasn't straight - and he had a very feminine gender expression. It's impossible to tell how he would have behaved, thought, etc if he had lived today, but I think it's an interesting question and personally I liked Galschiøt's interpretation of it.
It's also nice for once to see something regarding breast cancer which isn't about or only for cis women.
In general, btw, I can also recommend most of Galschiøt's other works.
