Star Trek : The Painful Time Paradox

May 10, 2009 20:51

I finally found some words from a reviewer that express my feelings:

"With one film, J.J. Abrams has made Star Trek younger, flashier, sexier, funnier, and less intelligent, but more exhilarating than it has been in decades. By altering the franchise's storied past, he ignites a fevered barn-burner that's geared toward today's action junkies but also sets the stage for what could be a long and prosperous future." (emphasis is mine)

Thank you, FilmCritic.com

I did laugh. I liked seeing familiar characters in a new setting. The humor was generally great (although Scotty is funny on his own, he does not need a lame sidekick).

But ye gods, the plot was awful, and I DO NOT like this new alternate universe. Note to director : when Star Trek is annoying and messes up the timeline, they PUT IT BACK.

I do not want dumbed down Trek. I like the philosophical questions, I like the moral quandaries.

*grumble*
