Went out to Oak Grove Cemetery again, but didn't go in, just used it as a way point. I wanted to find that body of water I saw on the map my last ride. Found it, and rolled along the Mystic Valley Parkway until I got to Winchester. Och, such a lovely little arcadian place :) There's nothing there, there really isn't, but it's a pretty spot. I found a new place, too - there was a sign almost overgrown with ivy, with the word "MUSEUM" barely visible. This brought me to a halt and I looked closer.
As it turns out, there is the
Griffin Photography Museum, located in Winchester. It was closing up as I arrived, unfortunately, but I had a nice conversation with the person locking up. Arthur Griffin apparently was a local boy done good as a photographer, contributing to such old rags as Time and Life and so on when they were first getting started. He also was big friends with Ted Williams and was known to get the best shots of him in action (in a suspiciously Peter-Parker-photographing-Spiderman sort of way. I had the sense not to use my Outside Voice when this occurred to me during the conversation).
Anyway, they're having an opening for a new exhibition this Thursday, free admission :) Catered, etc. etc. I might go back for it, dunno.
Found my way to Arlington, hopped on the Minuteman Bike Trail, which is a real gem. One of the best things about living in the greater Boston area, no joke. Took it out to Lexington. It was busy but not crowded, people out walking, running, rollerblading(lol) and cycling. Nice long stretches where I could crank as fast as possible and not worry about cross traffic or other foolishness. And the nature everywhere was just wonderful.
I didn't take the path all the way out to the end in Concord. I'll save that for another day. I'm expanding my rides little by little, so :)
Here's the route.
