First, I loved reading this: An Open Letter to Eric Kripke by Alaya Dawn Johnson (Supernatural, obviously).

Second, something I'd like to try, True Blood cocktails.

Third, my thoughts as I watched Glee 1.01 "Pilot" and 1.02 "Showmance".

1.01

I am torn about high school things, because on the one hand, I love stories about teens in high school. I loved high school. Of course I love media about it. Except there's also this assumption I see in my current circles (fandom, academia, kink, etc.) that of course everyone hated high school and was miserable during it.

Cheerleaders are performers, damn it. Also athletes. I hate that stereotypical treatment of them.

I dislike way Coach Ken (isn't that Chow from True Blood) pushes himself on Emma, but I also hate the way Emma pursues Will.

I like Mercedes a lot - and her voice gave me chills - but I really dislike the whole feisty, fat black woman relegated to backup singer situation.

I already find Rachel really annoying and I can't put my finger on why. I'm also not sure I buy a girl that pretty as a social outcast in this particular high school where it's supposed to be all about beauty. Also, being anonymous is not worse than being poor. Maybe this is why I dislike her. I also don't think she's the best kid in glee club.

I do think the show does well capturing the way teens can be cruel to each other.

Also, I find the guy boring. If he and Rachel are supposed to be the fun romantic leads, I'm in for lots of boredom. Though I do love his story with Darren and really hearing music for the first time.

Thank you, Mercedes! Thank you for speaking up! Because so far? It's not just one song. It's both songs we've seen them sing as a group.

So the singing and dancing is pretty much why I want to watch this show, and that part is fun.

I really hate the way he interrupts Tina just because she's stuttering a little. I have no need to watch a white boy taking over anything.

While I agree that life needs to have passion, I also sometimes think, when characters tell other characters not to pursue a job which pays well because they're not passionate about it, that whoever wrote that line for the character probably doesn't have any idea what it's like to actually be poor.

So, yeah, this is song number three in which Mercedes is a back-up singer. I am always going to be bothered by this. Always.

Also, red shirts, blue jeans, and tennis shoes aren't that creative, considering you were so adamant you could bring awesome fashion, Mercedes.

I think Glee's soundtrack would make an excellent workout mix, at least so far.

I realize they're trying to write the Cheerio's coach as a manipulative jerk, but I think calling a cripple half a kid is more sloppy writing than actual strong characterization. I dislike being offensive just for shock value.

I also need Will to stop reliving his glee club days and give them better music.

So on the one hand, I'm thrilled that Mercedes gets a song, finally. On the other hand, I'm not sure how I feel about him waiting for Kanye to give her a lead. (Also, I kind of hate this song, even though I like Kanye.) Also, where is Tina's solo?

Ick. Much like Stacey McGill, I can't handle the sound of people throwing up or faking throwing up or trying to throw up.

If the balloon pops, the noise makes the angels cry? This is kind of fabulously hilarious. I do like Rachel's comment that girls want sex just as much as guys do.

I am super bored with this flirtation between Will and Emma, too.

Oh, god, I haven't heard "Push It" in so long. WHY does Rachel get the lead spot? And also, aren't they supposed to be actually singing? I mean, is this just because the time was so short? Or am I missing some important info about glee clubs? Or are they singing? OMG my music fail is showing. Why is Rachel the only girl in a skirt? I do like that Mercedes is shown as being just as sexy as the other girls, though.

Wait, since when are guy and Rachel at a point where they make out? Also, even with car accident flashbacks, this is boring.

What the fuck is up with Terri's hysterical pregnancy? And also her not working and yet blowing all her money? Are they trying to make her so awful that we root for Will to break up with her? Because I am tired of that trope.

I actually do think that Will is punishing Rachel by giving away her solo and that bothers me, especially when Will planted drugs and manipulated what's his face to join glee club. I dislike him more each episode.

I'm not sure I like this show.
