Hey, it's public!

Feb 20, 2006 00:35

I haven't made a public entry in quite sometime, so here it is for those of you have been complaining.

I just finished reading Complications--A Surgeon's Notes on an Imperfect Science

It was some reading that I had to do for New Visions, but it was surprisingly good. It was certainly an eye opener dealing with not so publicized aspects of health care. The surgeon who wrote the book talked about how so many things in Medicine are not cut and dry, as so many of us think it is. A lot of healthcare relies upon a doctor's intuition (or lack thereof). It was fairly amusing, but not always reassuring.

I like the idea of having a week long "February break." This is the time of year when we really start needing a break, and I think the timing couldn't have been any better. Now that college applications are done, things are really relaxed.

Yesterday night, I was able to just sit in bed at 10:00 pm, and just read a book of my choice for however long I wanted. I love unstructured time, and I'm discovering how fun doing what I want can be.

This week should prove to be a relaxing one, not to jinx it or anything. I'm really looking forward to sitting on my ass and doing nothing. I have some sort of APUSH essay to do (which I didn't get the assignment) but I'm not going to let it get in my way!!

I got this really beautiful DVD quality video of Maxim Vengerov playing the Sibelius Violin Concerto with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Wow, he's one of the most amazing violinists I've seen in a looong time. Perhaps mahlerfan77 has heard of him. He was so good that he played two encore songs lasting ten minutes total. He has HUGE hands and really fat fingers. It amazes me how he can play so precisely.

That's him.

I was at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Wilson Hospital for rotations this week. Though I thought it was a little boring at first, it was soo fun to be with all the premature babies. It was definitely sad to see these tiny babies with all these tubes and wires coming out of them. I got to hold this premature baby with cleft lip and palate. It was uber cool, though it kept on pulling on my finger. :-P

I try to supplement my LJ entries with pictures, so here's one.

There's a baby in there!

The photo became all pixelated when I uploaded it to photobucket...weird.

No one better complain about me killing their f'list, because I've tolerated those looong survey posts everyone's been doing, haha :-P

book, new visions, nicu
