New Tolkien Material

A couple of new publications are out or about to come out. First, Vinyar Tengwar #49 is to be published in late May and will contain the fourth part of 'Eldarin Hands, Fingers & Numerals and Related Writings'. I don't think any further information about the issue has been announced yet.

Second, and quite unlooked for, is The History of the Hobbit: Mr Baggins v. 1 by John Rateliff, in which Tolkien's drafts of The Hobbit will finally be made available: Synopsis: A major new examination of how J.R.R.Tolkien came to write his original masterpiece 'The Hobbit', including his complete unpublished draft version of the story, and many little-known illustrations and previously unpublished maps by Tolkien himself.
I don't know that this will unearth anything new for Elf fans, since much of The Hobbit is interesting because of interpretations layered upon it by LOTR. We might finally learn something of King Bladorthin, however. It is now winging its way to me. (It's not yet available at Amazon in the US - when did the pound get so high?)
