Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
It is here. I do not have it yet, but it is here. Millions of people are all staying up today, reading into the wee hours of the night, everyone with the same book and the same excitement, and oooh that thought is so cool!
Today I first went to see Heights, some indie movie (the only likable character gets stabbed, the dear), then I got out and wandered over to Books and Books, where I sat down at the cafe, ordered a latte and a chocolate mousse cake, put on World Leader Pretend on the walkman, and read 170 pages of the Order of the Phoenix as people gathered about to wait for Half Blood Prince.
At one point I went into the back room to go to the bathroom, and there they were! Boxes of them, marked "Do Not Open Until July 16, 2005" and I stood there watching thinking of all those millions of people all reading it together all over the globe. As I left, people just started receiving it...I remember a couple of years ago, I was standing in the same place getting my copy of the 5th. Seems sort of appropriate, really, to have come full circle. Ahh...I'm all meditative.
DAMN IT, MAILMAN, GET HERE ALREADY!!
