About the notion of “human rights”
under which Steyn and Macleans are being prosecuted in British Columbia. The Albertan Human Rights Commission
continues to widen the speech it regulates. Such hate crimes cases
apparently have a 100% conviction record. Of course; such bodies are dominated by the “concerned” and such convictions extend their power. The NYT thinks the move to regulate hate speech
has something going for it. Yes, of course
they do: these calls to limit criticism and "hate speech" always have an ideological filter. There is never a suggestion that the speech bans be even-handed. Criticism of African Americans is outlawed, but exactly parallel language about white folks is A-OK. Criticising Islam is out, but Christianity is a fine target. Death threats against Haitian activists must be avoided at all costs, but death threats against corporate executives are no reflection on free speech or the media. The article is quite explicit that by their definition, hate speech only applies to "minorities," which you can translate to mean "groups the political class has decided to protect."

About
Dubya’s flaws. It became clear early on that Dubya is poor at picking people and worse at sacking them.

Arguing that McCain versus Obama is
an impressive choice. Yes, but may be
much the same themes. McCain and Obama
have rather contrasting fiscal and economic views. McCain’s daughter
has a blog.
Doing the
Electoral College math for Obama (rather too pessimistically IMHO). His fundraising
includes a “Woodstock for rich people”. A prominent member of the black caucus
was crucial in the timing of Hillary’s exit. Her
concession speech.
Playing the Obama-is-like-Carter meme
for all it can bear (and more).
Obama is
a product of Illinois politics and the Chicago Democratic machine, which has
a long and continuing history of corruption. Obama
has strong connections with the authoritarian side of the 1960s Left.
About the US feminism movement

having become so much the Washington insider.
