You didn’t know kangaroos could become vicious
canine-killers, did you? But honestly, Canberra can have that effect on anyone. (Via

The staff of the national broadcaster think a transcript of its 7pm news might be a bit too much accountability. They are available elsewhere: putting the
blue pencil through another night’s broadcast.
Arguing that
the trouble much of the modern Left has with ordinary folk is (1) they are not materialistic enough and (2) they dare to have different concerns that the one’s they are supposed to have.
The increasing cost of being
in the public eye.
A
lovely little commentary.
How can similar values and experiences lead to diametrically
opposite conclusions?
The war on terror and the
slow death of tourism? Paying
Danegeld feeds the beast, it does not sate it.
Peter Garrett as neophyte politician seems set to provide continuing entertainment, but
not in a good way.
For those who want to get worried about
such things. I can’t get all that worked up, since it is (1) much milder than what Lincoln, Wilson or FDR did in wartime situations (2) will be subject to judicial review and (3) is still not as intrusive as what people in, say, France, would accept as normal. (Come to that, not my area of expertise, but I wonder how it stacks up vis-a-vis the situation here in Oz? For example, in Oz, the Commonwealth Attorney-General issues ASIO wiretap, mail intercept and hidden search warrants.)
The

On Christian marriage, what C S Lewis
said. And speaking as someone who has big issues with my (settled, stable, thoroughly heterosexual married parents) upbringing, a case like
this hardly says much one way or another. And
other such points. And yes, the marriage amendment is about
election-year politics. And
also. The opposition is to both same-sex marriage
and civil unions.
James Lileks puts the
boot into Michael Moore. It’s such a fun sport. (And a
pic.)
Comparing the US Veep candidates.
More on the
farewell speech that Paul Bremer
didn’t make. It may seem a trivial thing to harp on, but it’s not. It expresses so much of what is wrong with the mainstream media. The WP reporter
explains. Which seems to come down to, because I wasn’t told in advance something was happening I was justified in saying it didn’t.
In war,
attrition can be the way to win. But
poor intelligence sure ain’t.
