MORE painting and moving preps

I finished the first draft of my paper yesterday and sent it off to my co-authors, so I decided (especially since Vassilis is gone at GEM) that going into the office would be a completely waste of time, and that a much more effective use of my time would be to stay home and pack (since I can't do anything til I hear back from my co-authors or Vassilis returns). It's taking such a long time! I have so many boxes filled and yet so much more stuff to pack! I worked until lunch time, then met up with Marissa at Enzo's. I worked a little more until 2, then got an email from Joey saying we were going to meet at In N' Out for grad cell at 7pm. So I decided to go work on the new apartment (painting) until then, since I haven't seen them in awhile and I wouldn't get to work on it otherwise.

So I biked over there and finished up my room. There are actually a couple spots I noticed on my way out I'll have to touch up, but effectively it's done. While I was working my neighbor shouted hello through the screen door. I showed him the paint job and he seemed to really like it, but then, he was extremely enthusiastic in general. I am very sad because he is moving away this weekend, and I think he would have been an excellent neighbor to have. HoJin still has all my music CDs, but I found an introductory CD to UPC when I first attended and it has tons of worship music on it from their praise band, so I had music to listen to while I worked!

I realized I wouldn't have enough paint for Jenni's room, and I was out of painter's tape, so I biked back to OSH to get it along with a new roller and a baby roller to get this nitch by her closet. But the kid who mixed my paint last time didn't include some information on the lid, so I had to bike back to get the can, and then back again to OSH so they could mix my paint. I'm actually not sure how much I like the resultant color...I don't think it's exactly the same as the previous renter's, it's more of a powder/sky blue, and I thought I remembered hers actually having some purple hue to it. At OSH I saw a more "earthy/nautical" blue that I really liked...but I just told myself that I wouldn't like a darker color cuz it would make the room seem smaller. Maybe once I have my stuff in there it will be better....and I'm thinking of buying a big plant from OSH to put in my room too, so that would add some contrast.

By the time I got back and taped up Jenni's room, it was 6, so I decided there wasn't time to start painting it and instead I would start screwing some of the outlet covers in my room back on. Around 6:15 I hopped on my bike to head back, only to discover that my front tire was completely deflated!!! All I can figure is that I rode over some glass...I wasn't sure if I could make it back, but my common sense was saying it was stupid to try and ride all the way back to Westwood on a flat tire. Thankfully, when I arrived at Santa Monica Blvd, the Big Blue Bus was just pulling up, so I waved it down and threw my bike on the front and rode it back. I quickly threw on some clean clothes and sprayed myself silly with body spray so I wouldn't stink like paint and sweat and raced down to In N' Out.

It was a fun dinner, I'm glad I went back for it. We got to meet Joey's sister, Winnie, who is visiting her for awhile. Joey is actually leaving in 2 weeks to study abroad for about a month and a half, so that is sad, cuz out of everyone in cell group she's one that I talk to most often. So many people are gone over the summer!

Mike put up some more fantastic pictures of him right next to the shuttle. One he is under the belly, and one he is right next to the cockpit window where he will use his device to see if there are any dents that are too big, requiring them to replace the window. I'm so proud of him and all the amazing things he gets to do. Since I've been working so much on this paint job we haven't talked much since I got back, but hopefully that will change once things settle down again. Right now he goes to bed before I even get home. Well, I'd better get some more packing done. I am very sleepy, so I might turn in early tonight as well.
