Christmas update

I have a very sweet boyfriend. :-)

At our Gabrielse Christmas gathering, my Aunt Sherry had us all go around answering from a list of questions; things like, "What was your favorite Christmas gift?", and "What advice do you have for everyone here?", and "What is your best Christmas memory?" etc. So Mike was towards the end and he chose to answer what his favorite gift was. And he said that I was the best gift he had ever receieved..."From the moment that she asked me to dance..." (and we all laughed) "...and she looked up at me with those big eyes..." and he shared how having me had brought so many blessings to his life, from being pushed to become an engineer and go to Florida Tech instead of staying and going into carpentry, to having the joy of being with our family. He shared how he has a pretty small family and no extended family in Wisconsin, so he loved being able to join us and get to know all of them (being my cousins and aunts and uncles etc.) He said it much sweeter, but that was the gist, and I was melting.

We also had dinner with his family yesterday, and then opened our own gifts. He got me a laptop jacket (so I can carry my laptop in my backback to school daily without scratching it or otherwise harming it), a Little Mermaid picture he found at Michael's that he knew I'd like, and a really totally awesome sweet Willow Tree figurine of a man and woman called "Together". I love the Willow Tree collection so I was really excited to get it. We are soon going to my grandpa's nursing home to set up his wireless internet.

I think that's so cool, I am so proud. MY Grandpa is the FIRST resident to have a computer, much less INTERNET! Uncle Bob was saying we should get the newspaper in there to do a story and give him some publicity about it. I think that's a fantastic idea--cuz as younger generations age and need to go to nursing homes, computer and internet availablilty will become necessary. So if my Grandpa can get a lot of publicity, maybe the centers will start making computers and internet available!

I am so tired right now though...We stayed up late watching Mr. and Mrs. Smith. PLUS I was seriously ready to go to sleep at like 5 last night so...heh. Church was really nice yesterday too. Readings and special music intertwined with singing. The girls really liked their sister rings I bought them. I'm very happy about that! I got some great stuff from my family too, like a PhD comics t-shirt about supporting your local female geek (women in grad school)--I'm wearing it today!--a bathroom scale, and the Gabrielse name in history. I also got nice smelling lotion and candle from Sarah, stylish dangly earrings from Heidi, and super cute house slipper/sockeys and a sister book from Amy.

It was so nice seeing family again, as always. It's fun to catch up and hear what's going on in their lives. My distant friends are often on my mind as well during this season. I hope everyone across the nation are having wonderful holidays as well!

love, mike, grandparents, family
