Not Worth It?

This is the second year in a row where I've found myself too sick to work 2 days after getting the flu shot, and retreated to my bed. This time seems milder than the last, with the bad part lasting less than 12 hours. And this morning I'm back to at least 90% - after more than 15 hours of sleep.

So which makes more sense - 100% chance of 1 sick day, or rely on herd immunity to reduce the odds of spending several days even sicker?

One other interesting though - I've been getting the flu shot regularly for the past decade or so, since my doctor suggested it would be a good idea. Does the observation that my reactions to the shot have gotten notably worse imply that if I were to actually catch the flu in the ordinary way, my experience of it would also be worse? And if so, would that "worse" be beyond the usual "stay in bed, drink plenty of fluids, etc."?

FWIW this year's reaction may have been influenced by eating Indian food for lunch, about an hour before things got worse enough that I left the office Diwali party. I know Indian food is an IBS trigger for me, and my intestines are still complaining ;-( Perhaps if I'd eaten more sensibly I'd just have had an ordinary case of the bleah-I-feel-poorly not so-feverish-I-can't-focus. (I'd started the day feeling "tired and grouchy," which may really have been "slightly sick but not paying attention".)
