So it took a little longer than I expected, but I'm finally tested negative this morning. It was about 10 days from when I first felt symptoms so not bad. I think I was anxious because the minimum isolation period for my work was 6 days so it was longer than I expected. And while I had things that I can and should do onsite, none of it is super critical at this point. So being able to take the whole week at home wasn't bad.
My family also planned a birthday for Sunday, so that was also a deadline to test negative. I guess I didn't want to affect the plans of others, so I'm relieved that I didn't have to change anything. And luckily, I didn't give Angie COVID since she tested negative when I originally tested positive, showed no symptoms, and tested negative again today. I guess she's still cool, unlike me.
Overall, I'd say it wasn't too bad. I'm vaccinated and boosted, without high risk factors, so it'd be rare for it to be bad for me. But it was mainly the first 2-3 days of fever and headache (also didn't help that I was working extra then). But after that first weekend, it was just different cold symptoms (inconsistent).
And with that said, I think the CDC recommendations are kind of crazy. I'm not sure if they have been updated, but from what I saw, it's just 5 days isolation (as long as your symptoms get better) then 5 days of wearing a mask... no testing or anything.
In other news, Star Trek: Picard season 2 was bad, like Obi-Wan bad. I'd say the first season started off well, but the ending was pretty bad. Season 2 was pretty consistently bad; the first episode was okay to good, but the rest were just terrible. And it seems like there was the mix of modern American writing of episodes/plots that are pointless, inconsistent world/motivations, forced drama, and quick resolution. I was talking to Angie about this and I think a big issue of modern American writing is that they want to have several stories/conflicts peak at the same time. So you have people confessing their feelings, finding a personal revelation, and saving the world all in the last (or second to last) episode. And this sucks because you have people interrupting world saving events to stop and chat about their feelings. I felt like older shows (like The Next Generation) would have their character building and relationship events happen at a different time than, you know, the ship is going to blow up. I wonder if that's one of the big issues, or if it's just another symptom... But, I'll give Star Trek one last try by trying Strange New Worlds, which people say is good. It often is compared to TNG or "Star Trek of our youth". So I'll give it a try. If it's not good, I can just leave the fandom. (I need to find better tv to watch, but it feels like the only things that I'd say were good recently are either Marvel or Taiwanese shows. I guess Arcane was actually pretty good, and the early episodes of the Mandalorian.)
In video game news, I've completed all the main quests (to my knowledge) in Lightning Returns. I'll probably try to do as many of the side quests/etc as I can. The weird part is that the game is time based, so I wonder if I'll just be sitting around while the timer is going. Weird, but maybe I'll just have to go into a slumber (like Lightning and many characters have done before the events of the game). Overall, it's been good with a few frustrating parts. And I'd say the whole Final Fantasy XIII series has been good. After this game, I'll try to work through Halo with Angie since we borrowed the Master Chief Collection (it'll also be good to use our Xbox One for gaming... it mainly is there to watch tv).
For the last ~10 days, the only time I left the house was to walk Alfie (yesterday, I also drove Angie on a few tasks but stayed in the car since I missed driving). It's good that it was super hot lately so there were very little people out and it was easy to avoid people. There is one neighbor who always gives Alfie treats that I avoided, but otherwise, it was easy to avoid people. Today, (not that I'm negative) we plan to do random tasks like shopping and eating. It would have been nicer if the weather was crazy, but it's the summer...
