Mini-Vacation

Somewhat randomly, Angie decided to take a few days off around this 4th of July. I decided to be a follower and take the same days off, especially since I somehow didn't use up all my days last year (which hurts my soul). So a three day weekend turned into a 6 (wow) day weekend (Thursday - Tuesday off).

To start things off in exciting fashion, I scheduled an escape room today =) I saw it while we were randomly driving in town, and we've been wanting to try "real" ones for a while. The main thing holding me back until today was that in "peak" times, you need to buy a minimum of four entries. And peak times are like Friday 4pm to Sunday close. So it worked out well to try it on a day off.

First, it was really nice that it was just the two of us trying to work through the room. We're both meticulous and like puzzles. The room, itself, was actually a multi-room setup and had nice features like drawers opening automatically when you finish certain puzzles. So it felt like good value. And most importantly, the puzzles made sense and I never felt frustrated. As time was getting lower, there were a little bit of hints on the board, but I didn't feel like it ruined the experience. We got to the last puzzle (I think), which was also really cool since a secret door/wall opened. But not fully reading the clue, we failed (would have completed with 5 more minutes!).

So I enjoyed the experience and we already talked about trying other rooms at this location. There were like 5 or so themes, and three of them were interesting when we booked. Maybe by the time we work through those 3, they'll refresh or change up some rooms.

Unfortunately, I was crazy last night and this morning trying to finish something for work. And I'm currently tempted to check my emails! Ugh, bad Henry!

In video gaming news, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is going okay. Since moving on to another world/map, I've been enjoying it more again. I also borrowed Halo: The Master Chief Collection from Hugh so Angie and I can play through the first four (I would have guessed three) Halo games at some point.

My Mini (2019 Mini Cooper S) is out of it's free service (or will be in August, but since I got an early oil change when I had break service, it doesn't have anything on the schedule before August) so I'll change it's cabin air filter (the dealership didn't feel it was time so they wouldn't do it for free). That should be easy, but since I'm thinking of changing that filter, I've been reading WAY TOO MUCH about performance engine air filters and aftermarket intakes. It seems like there's lots of conflicting opinions, but I think I'll just go with a performance air filter (probably K&N) since it sounds like aftermarket intakes often reduce low end power and improve high end power. And since I'm a big fan of my low end torque, I don't want to sacrifice that. I'll probably stop by an auto store and get the filters someday. I'd be nice to do it this weekend, but the forecast is pretty darn hot. It may be time for some routine maintenance with Angie's Mazda3 so I'll see how ambitious I am...

Oh, and what does people use to host pictures? Google Photos used to work well, but I can't seem to hotlink photos anymore. What are other good alternatives?
