Mole Day is a basically a dorkier chemist version of Pi day. A "mole" is basically the amount of atoms which gets to the atomic mass that you'll find on the periodic table: 6.02 x 10^23 atoms. So 10/23. Otherwise, I guess moles are also used in lots of chemical formulas and such but practically, I think the major thing is its the amount which corresponds to the periodic table. There's other random stuff like a mole of gas is 22.4 L or something.
Anyway, now that everyone fell asleep or left, I can talk about Asian dramas. Angie, being an Asian female who was born and lived in Asia (Taiwan), is a big fan of Taiwanese dramas. So "recently" (maybe the last 6 months), she'll watch dramas either on her laptop or on the television. I'll typically be doing something else but sometimes watch parts. For example, when I played lots of Pokemon: Crystal, Angie would watch a drama on the television and we'd be on the couch together. So I'd also watch some of it. Sometimes, I pay more attention (especially if there's subtitles).
Since Korean dramas are incredibly popular these days, Angie decided to watch a Korean remake of one of her favorite Taiwanese dramas, Fated To Love You. And since I "watched" the end of the Taiwanese version (I say "watched" because it didn't have subtitles and I can't understand Mandarin), we are watching the Korean version together (it needs subtitles since neither of us know Korean). So far its okay. But overall, its just a fun activity to do together.
Since I finished the Chris portion of Resident Evil, I started Prince of Persia (2008). Angie actually introduced me to Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, which was one of the better games that I played in the last 10 years. It's sequel, The Warrior Within, was pretty bad, but the end of the trilogy, Two Thrones, was good, but not nearly as good as The Sands of Time. Angie actually got and played Prince of Persia (2008) back in 2008 when it came out, but didn't give a glowing review. But I decided to play it and I'm actually a fairly big fan of it so far, although its not Sands of Time. Anyway, I think the art direction is really good since I'm a huge fan of cell shading and bright colors. So I only played it for a couple of nights so far, but I'm looking forward to continuing with it and then someday playing Forgotten Sands, which is a sequel to the Sands of Time since it takes place between Sands of Time and Warrior Within, I think.
I also saw this
Political Compass Test on a friend's page. I'm surprised that I'm so super moderate and slightly towards the left. Maybe Angie's brainwashing has been working. But I think its probably because I have strong (extreme) opinions on things which are classically liberal and conservative which balances towards the center? (I'm like a balanced Force Luke?) I attribute it to how the split between Reps and Dems don't really make lots of sense. Like I also wasn't a huge fan of some of the questions. I imagine I lose lots of "right" points because I'm not religious at all. I'm also probably too punk to be authoritarian, but not hippy enough to be libertarian. So in general, it was okay, but I would prefer a more comprehensive test and/or would want to see how they determine your results (if its a simple +/- on two axes).
I also finished The Waste Lands today. It is the third book of Stephen King's Dark Tower series. Overall, I'd say I'm underwhelmed by it. I wouldn't say its bad, but its not really that great either, especially since people seem to love the series. So far, I do think the aspect of the crumbling past is pretty interesting.
But I generally think the world isn't overly interesting in the "present". Again, when they encounter the little town before Lud and hear about the siege and such, I found that was very interesting. Also, "ka" or fate is a major theme of the story. So there are times when either things just happen or characters just know things (without explanation). While it re-enforces the "ka" theme, I think it makes certain points feel very deus ex machina. I also think the characters are only okay. Oh, and another random thing that bugged me is that Stephen King is wrong about his "priming" puzzle: 1 is not a prime number. It seems nitpicky, but if you're going to have a riddle based on prime numbers, know your primes.
But with that said, I'm interested enough to continue so I'll read the remaining books, although I'm not sure if I want to take a break and read something else. I guess I'll just make a rash decision tonight or tomorrow morning.
We also watched Central Intelligence which is a movie with The Rock and Kevin Hart. It was pretty good but I don't feel like going into it. And finally, I'm somewhat interested in the World Series (baseball) even though I pretty much ignored the playoffs so far. Overall, I think I'm a fan of the Indians and Kluber, so I'll be a bad guy and root against the Cubs.
