Lake Time

As I have mentioned before, I have been enjoying slowly getting to know a local man I meet at the lake every Sunday morning, Bill. To refresh, I met Bill several months ago when I was hiking around the lake and he was there with his dogs. He is the primary caregiver for his dad and on weekdays he gets his dad out and they walk around  at Cedar Hill State Park down by Joe Pool Lake. After they get the walk done, he then hauls the dogs down by the dam where he can get them down to the water to play for a bit. His dad stays up in the truck with a cell phone, the horn, and music to listen too while Bill take s about 30 minutes with the dogs. I met him when he was there with them on one of my days off.

So when we first met, after talking and such (I will not define such completely) we discovered that each other were gay and he invited me to come on Sundays when he would leave his dad at church. It winds up that Sunday morning is his only break from his dad and he relishes the couple of hours he has at the lake with the dogs (two Chesapeake Bay Retrievers and two mutts). The dogs took to me pretty well quickly which was a good sign as far as he is concerned (he told me that today), and we have enjoyed our time, slow as it seems, of getting to know each other. We have talked about every subject under the sun and our personalities definitely mesh very well together.

For several weeks now, I have been looking forward to these Sunday morning meetings and in many respects it is the prospect of these meetings that help my week progress better. Even with everything else happening, the toughest part of my NC trip was missing my Sunday morning with Bill and the dogs. He told me today that he had really missed me that Sunday as well and that it was just not the same without me there. Most of the time I make it to the parking area in time to meet him and walk down together, but the last two weeks, he beat me there and went ahead to the dam area without me (no use holding the dogs back anyway). I think it is sweet that when the dogs saw me walking toward them, then ran back to me to greet me and walk with me to the little outcrop of rock where we hang out. It is a sweet time - I just wish I could have some more with him...

So photos at last. First, Bill and I - we were standing on a slope and he appears to be the same height as me in this one, but he is actually nearly three inches taller. Then, I took one of him with the lake in the background and upon playing with the light levels came up with a look that I quite enjoy. I hope you do as well...

bill, friendship
