Labor Day Weekend Funhood

Sep 06, 2011 23:10

Yes, I know that is not a real word, but I am tired as crap tonight after my first day back to work post the long weekend and it worked for me.

Friday was a night for dancing at the Round-Up where I had a few good friends out who had not been there in awhile so LOTS of practice which was fine with me. A couple of friends noted to me that I am moving around the dance floor much better now that I have lost the weight I have dropped so far. However, my Wranglers are just plain baggy now. Much as I really do not want to be spending money on more new clothes right now, I may have to break down and get a new pair. What is the good of Wranglers if they are so loose that they do not show off your butt?

I had he pleasure Friday of also running into Mark, one of my good friends from Kansas City. He and I met years ago at TBRU and spent an incredible night together there and have contonued as good friends since then (funny how that kind of thing seems to happen a lot). In any case, Mark decided last minute to get away to Dallas and away from KC where he had initiated a breakup with his partner of 5 years, Steve. Steve has been telling Mark for years that he wanted to move in together, and Mark even bought a house to facilitate that a couple of years ago. However, Steve never made any move on his part to accomidate. So, a month ago Mark ended it. He is sad about it, but also felt like he could not really  continue on with how things were. So he was here at a mutual friend of ours to relax and just decompress a bit.

However, the best part of Friday happened at the Eagle. I was here walking around the patio and saw an old freind I had known from YEARS ago here in Dallas, Doug. Better than that even, his partner David was with him. The last time I had seen either of them was 7 years ago when I was flying to NC through Greensboro and ran into Doug at the airport. He and David had been living in Charlotte a few years at that time and David had been diagnosed with some sort of cancer. In fact, as Doug put it, he was near death and not sure if he was going to pull through. A friend of theirs was on the same flight as me and Doug was picking him up as he was going to help them out with logistics concerning their house and possibly caring for David when/if he came home. It sounded pretty dire, and Doug had so much fear in his face about it, but still was speaking hopefully.

As it was, David very nearly did die, but the removal of a lung and heavy chemo and radiation wound up putting a halt to the cancer and he pulled through. To look at David now you would never know he had been near Death's door - he looks as hale and hearty as ever. Considering how he felt up my ass, he is still just as horny as he was 15 years ago when I met him as well. I did let a few tears out when I hugged him as it REALLY was good to know he is well.

Saturday, I had Mike over for a homemade meal and some time to get to know each other more. Grilled "baked" haddock crusted with sliced almonds, steamed broccoli and roasted tomato and artichoke hearts was the menu with fresh watermelon for desert. The meal was pretty well near perfect. Funny thing is this is the first time I have ever cooked for a man in a date-type situation, so I was a bit worried about my skills and the menu, it wound up a good time. We then went to Joe Poole Lake at Cedar Hill State Park to get some photos around the sunset and I trusted him with my camera to take a few of me as well The results:

Me - Full length body shot - this one less formal than the one in July and about 20 more pounds down...

Yes, I am pleased with where the weight loss is heading...

The rest of the weekend was mainly a big pool party on Sunday where I ate something non-plan for the first time all summer - a bite of mac-and-cheese. Then dinner Sunday at Chris and Dan's where the food was not nearly so important as the time together. Unfortunately we have been unable to get together as much this summer, so I remedied that as best as I could. Monday, a much smaller gathering not far from the house for some pool volley ball and a cookout. I was REALLY bad there as I ate a spicy kielbasa as well as some of their mac and cheese as well. Today I am back on plan with good food and a hard swim at the gym after.

Now to the rest of this month. sparkygearhead is headed out on vacation on Friday so Sunny and I will have plenty of time to ourselves in his absence. Then I am to Albuquerque the last weekend of the month for a much needed escape from Dallas to visit sparkygearhead and billeyler and see some of their world. THAT I am greatly anticipating...
