All Hail Moussaka!

God I love Greek food...

Last night went to dinner at a friend's house and they had cooked homemade moussaka. Now, theirs' was a little different from what I have had before since it had both eggplant and potatoes in it. Still have to love a dish that has a little bit of everything a hungry guy could want - meat, potatoes, veggies, cheese, garlic, and spices all covered up with a bechamel sauce and cooked until the top is a nice golden brown color. Could not make it through dinner without a reference to the opening scene in My Big Fat Greek Wedding though. Dessert was an upside-down fresh fig cake. God only knows what my glucose level was after eating a small piece of that as I was afraid to check!

Actually, the food was not the best part of the evening. This was a group of friends, some I know REALLY well and a few not so much. Lots of good conversation amid the 4 bottles of wine that were flowing and sitting outside after in the wonderful early fall Texas weather - dry and pleasant. Not even one mosquito dared attempt to ruin the evening. Thank god since we are in a West Nile Virus area....
