And, let's face it, the "psychotically" as well...
Note: Okay, so I've been promising (or threatening, possibly) to write a crazy essay about Sam's love for Dean for awhile. In light of recent events (S6!Sam, the
wincon panel,
missyjack's
Sam meta, and
my own S6!Sam thoughts), I finally sort of got to it. I'm pretty sure there are a ton of things I meant to

Sam is secure in Dean's support, allowing him to rebel. Sam rebels, making Dean think that he doesn't want/need him.
I once wrote a preseries Wincest fic that was based on just that premise and it broke my heart into a billion pieces to do it because that is exactly what set up the whoooole show. Sam's security in Dean and Dean's abandonment issues just warring with each other and driving everyone to irrational, erotic codependency. osilkmdh idek. SAMMY, I <3 YOUR PSYCHOSIS AND ALWAYS WILL. YOU GET DOWN WITH YOUR BAD MURDER/SUICIDE SELF, BB, AND LOVE DEAN WITH ALL YOU GOT.

This is, arguably, one of my FAVORITE things about our show. ♥___♥ I LOVE the parallels between John and Mary vs Sam and Dean, and how they're so alike it's heartbreaking and DUDE. THIS SHOW. IT'S SO FUCKED-UP, BUT IN THE MOST AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL PERFECT, HUMAN WAY. FFF MY LIFE I FALL HARDER IN LOVE EVERY DAY. :D

I totally agree that Dean's love tends toward the self-sacrificial "I will do ANYTHING for my brother!' while Sam's tends towards the 'I WILL FUCK YOUR SHIT UP IF YOU TOUCH HIM!' Dean gets emo, Sam gets angry. I know some people were complaining that Sam's anger was told more than shown in the last season, but hell, considering the whole length of the series, the boy has been balls-out cray-cray since Jessica died, and losing Dean just worsened that by a factor of, oh, six hundred thousand.
I also completely agree with Sam being absolutely confident in Dean's love for him, and that the few times he isn't sure are the incidents where he is completely and utterly unmoored. Most of s5, from his perspective, can be summed up as "How can I get Dean to LOVE me again? How can I prove myself to him?"
Man, he's not even subtle about that shit. When people say that Sam doesn't love Dean as much as Dean loves him, I just BOGGLE.

SO MUCH THIS!!! And he tries SO HARD to be good and have faith and do the right thing, and he just CANNOT HANDLE losing Dean on top of everything else. It's all so deliciously tragic.
I really really do too. I think part of it is that Show has always been primarily from Dean's POV. So S1 and S2 were very Sam-centric because Dean was pretty much entirely focused on him, and then other stuff happened and it sort of expanded beyond "HOMG, SAM!" Um, my point being I think Dean's stuff is much more obvious because we're so often seeing it through his eyes and he doesn't get just how much Sam depends on him.

You've made mt look at him anew, after all this time.
That makes me ridiculously happy!! I have always had a soft spot for Sam - he quite frequently breaks my heart! I was just watching Houses of the Holy last night and when Sam tells Dean he does pray, I'm just all, "SAM!" ♥_________♥ Ummm, anyway...
Oh, yes! They're both incredibly selfish in their love most of the time, IMO. I have always maintained that the difference between Gen and Wincest is whether or not they have sex, because the emotional basis is there. It's textual! They're both so... *hands* And it's ridiculous and messed-up and so very, very fascinating. They're both so close to getting it, but at the same time, the don't understand each other in the most basic ways.
INORIGHT?!?! I swear, this show has ruined me for all other shows. It's like the perfect storm of rich characterization, delicious angst and pretty, pretty boys. Naked Sam and Dean = never a bad thing EVER!
