McKinleyana!

Yesterday my mom and I went to Canton, Ohio, to visit the William McKinley Presidential Library and Museum. McKinley was no Grover Cleveland, but he's also a dead president, so he's worth a visit. There is a giant tomb (McKinley's) and the "largest collection of McKinleyana in the world"! The museum actually has less about McKinley and more about the Canton area and its history. It does, however -- and this is the coolest part -- have an audio-animatronic William McKinley and his wife, Ida, who greet visitors with tales of their lives while twitching their heads and arms robotically. At one point, Ida says, "I do love it when children come and sit on my lap," which gave me these visions of busloads of schoolkids cuddling up with the robot and the robot attacking them. The museum also has a planetarium, which would surely make red_claws jealous... the William McKinley Podunk Farm Equipment Presidential Museum in Canton has a planetarium, but the Royal Ontario Museum doesn't. Ouch. The McKinley museum also has these horrible advertisements disguised as exhibits in the "Industrial Room." For example, a series of photographs and captions show how Sugarland makes its fine meat products renowned for their high quality and good taste! Hoover describes the history of its vacuum cleaners. Etc. Lame, but oh well; McKinley probably would have approved anyway.
