How to Say Happy Fathers Day? part 2

Aug 30, 2012 18:09

Am I a poet,
or some bleating goat?
My Dad was an engineer but still took chances,
Is it better to keep my words in my throat?
Listen please, while my thoughts might reach
some half guessed answers
I do not seek to argue or preach
my words are rough like my fathers hands were
words knocked together with a workmans tools in a hasty task.
Most people may not be very inclined to ask
how we arrived here,
what do we know?
Did this human story start over two million years ago
when we were fairly hairy it would appear?
I'm sure that before there were these sounds we call words,
there was the fire of ideas
that shaped those first minds with the strength to ask
questions that might conquer our fears
How does life work?
What is the best we can do?
Any family must be strong in order to survive
humans grew through trials,
making mistakes but learning,
finding a way through danger to stay alive,
through adversity and calamity,
through famine
and lands of milk and honey
humanity found words and ways
to solve problems
we are the animal who prays,
and then we invented the problem of money!
Is it a good thing? Is it a bad thing?
It’s just another tool,
But if you ask me about numbers you’ll think I’m a fool
and so life becomes more complex,
and we have to go to school.
(Imagine the Author puts on headmasters airs,
breaths deep and wonders who cares....)
I’ve asked you all here today to listen to my speech,
There was something profound I wanted to say,
Some ideas puzzling me,
Something obscure, just out of reach
some point I had about
Fathers Day
and Family and Mothers and more
like I know something,
but maybe I don’t,
I’m just thinking out loud, am I a bore?
Fumbling around not funny or profound
I guess I like the sound of my own voice,
It’s been your choice
To listen, so thanks. Life goes by quick as a blink.
Maybe,
Just maybe think
And say to your dad "I love you"
if you’re a father, mother, daughter or son
It may seem hard
but it can be done.
