It’s kind of odd, kind of weird
To say
“Happy Fathers Day”
I’m not an orphan but
It’s many years since my parents passed away,
I will write another time about my mom,
when the avalanche debris of her death has been cleared
For now let me say my Dad was a good dad
in his rough unpolished style,
He made mistakes, like anyone does,
he had
some faults I guess,
he learned as he went
to answer the challenges he faced,
life doesn’t always wait while
we make up our minds.
When life is a mess
and patience seems spent
happiness is replaced
with anger and drama unwinds
simple life becomes a serious business
family can be hard work sometimes.
My Dad was from the greatest generation the world has known,
but he found it hard to express
how much he needed my Mum
He wasn’t a wordy git like me
he got things done
in his rough unpolished style,
you see
he never said “I love you, son.”
These words are not always a part of a mans speech,
being strong seems to put
vulnerable emotions out of reach.
So I wish fathers everywhere all the best and good luck,
as the world spins and days rush away
And the kids grow up quick as weeds,
or is that the wrong thing to say?
sometimes I have a clumsy rough unpolished style, okay?
