a little parental drama

Zach had a bit of an adventure last night. I'm not going to add specifics here, because I don't want to upset the people involved.

He got a tooth knocked out last night. Well, half of one came out last night, and the other half today. It was a baby tooth, and a new one is coming in below, no harm done for the long term.

My mom never attended my gymnastics meets when I competed as a kid and teenager. As a kid, that hurt a little bit. (But not hugely, because my dad attended regularly.) As an adult, I understand that she was petrified that she'd see me hurt myself. Given that the injury rate of competitive gymnasts is 100%, her fears were legit.

Then, as a young adult, I took up SCA fighting. That..did not go over well with either of my parents.

I hurt myself a number of times as a gymnast and was majorly injured as a fighter. (Skull fracture.)

My guess: you'll always feel some pain when your son gets hurt like that. Double especially so if you actually see the injury. That seems from the outside to be an integral part of being a caring parent.

OTOH, Zach's doing some serious rough-and-tumble sports. And he's growing up. He's learning how to handle it when he gets injured. Which is something he needs to figure out himself, in his own head. Your guidance matters, of course. But a big part of this is on Zach as a developing human being.

You might not want him to lose half his teeth by high school...but what does Zach want? They are, after all, his teeth.
