So I started work on the bike sunday. I think it was around oh, 1 or 2. A little later than I had hoped, but my "just a bit more" at 9am when my alarm went off turned into 11:30am. OOps. So first things first, I need to figure out a level spot in the driveway, since neither the garage or car port have enough light. Draining the oil was no problem, and a far cry from my first oil change disaster :shudder: Now that the engine is oil-less I can crack open the clutch. Or that was the plan at least. The first part, removing the rear brake lever was easy, no sweat, and I'm thinking for once it'll work out, maybe the clutch won't be a big deal. Probably should have held onto that thought. The next bolt I need to unscrew(yes the tense IS correct) was on so tight I couldn't actually tell if I was unscrewing it properly. Yes I know, righty tighty, lefty loosey, well it just happens that sometimes they reverse thread the screws for various reasons. There doesn't seem to be any non-arbitrary reason to do so in this case and it kind of feels like right is indeed tighter. However, after 8 overall turns to the left (I went both directions trying to make sure its correct) there was no noticeable gap being achieved beneath the bolt head. So now I kind of think that the bolt or threads are stripped. (I REALLY hope its the bolt or I'll have to buy a new part) but I'm not entirely sure of that either. I tried the other side and it was just as hard to unscrew; my hands hurt by this point so I only got 3 turns on it. It would be kind of unlikely for BOTH to be stripped, so I'm really just not sure. What I AM sure about is that I really wish I had air gun tools. I'm beginning to suspect the person responsible for tightening these two bolts did indeed have one. I gave up around 6pm to get ready for a study session.

So amidst that fiasco I did get one part of the job done. I was able to successfully remove the ignition lock to take to the locksmith. It was I even daresay easy. :runs to doorframe and begins pounding: Ok I guess I'm not that daring...

And sure enough today when I get to the end of my bus trip to both drop off the ignition lock and retrieve my books on hold at the used book store, I goofed up. Turns out I left the lock at home. And to further torment me, the bookstore owners closed early. Ah well, tomorrow I'll try again.

Tomorrow I'll also be checking to see if removing that peg really is absolutely necessary.
