I'm getting my bike ready for my trip up north and I've discovered that I can't find the stupid key. Tore apart my room looking too. I think I might have managed to leave it in the suv when my brother took it up north. Well, I called around today and it turns out that a locksmith will indeed make a new key that fits the original lock. yay! I was worried that they might not because of issues with possible stolen vehicles. Actually I am a little surprised at the ease in which I'm getting it done. The guy is even letting me take out the master lock assembly and just bring that, not the bike. Maybe there'll be some form I have to fill out or something so if the smith is asked he can say who ordered keys for such and such a vehicle recently. Eh, I guess if someone had a stolen vehicle the hard part would be selling, not getting a key; and if it was sold for scrap no key would be needed anyway.
The rest of the job should be easy enough....I hope. Really the only thing I'm worried about is any problems with the clutch. Currently the clutch doesn't completely disengage when I pull the lever, though when the bike is in neutral the clutch is definitely disengaged. With luck the clutch cable simply has too much slack. :crosses fingers: Otherwise its likely a misshapen clutch plate or pad that keeps pressure on the clutch so it stays slightly engaged.
