Summary: Look, I'm not late! (Whew, I'm glad you're both in my time zone. Granted, you're probably both smart enough to be asleep already.) Two connected drabbles of a hundred words each, set during AWE. One for each birthday but I don't know whose is which. Hopefully you don't mind sharing. I love you both--happy birthday!

Victory and the King

She spoke her own name clearly, almost disdainfully. This election was a pointless exercise, if every pirate only ever voted for himself. She certainly didn't trust any other Pirate Lord with her vote.

Jack would do the same, naturally. Why was he wasting their time--?

"Elizabeth Swann."

"What?"

The barest hint of a smile played on his lips, and he inclined his head. "Curious, isn't it?"

He'd planned this, of course. But their eyes met, and the warmth in his startled her; and in the flush of that victory, she dared to hope that he'd forgiven her, after all.

The Pirate Lords, galvanized into action, jostled each other towards the door. Elizabeth stood briefly alone in the Hall of the Brethren, a still figure in the midst of chaos, chin lifted, gaze abstracted; her expression held grim resolve and an odd new gravity.

Jack wondered what she'd done to reach this place, to get her Piece of Eight. Whatever she had to; that was Elizabeth Swann. It had marked her.

But it suited her. Somehow, this slip of a girl, in an ill-fitting uniform too broad in the shoulders and an uncommonly silly hat, looked every inch a King.
