Happy Valentines Day

Okay, I totally suck at this LJ thing.  Whenever life gets busy, free time spent on the computer is the first thing to go, and life has been crazy busy to say the least.

FASS is over for another year, which is nice because I really didn't have time for it, and sad because it's always fun and I got to work on my keyboard skills some more and hang out with a bunch of people that I hardly ever see otherwise.

My comprehensive exam is going to happen in April now.  I've got my question mostly figured out and my committee had a successful meeting, so I just have to read and read and then more reading.  I find it very difficult to buckle down and do this even though I enjoy it.  Today I've got an article on "second generation environmental policy" and one on "dynamics of collaborative arrangements" to go through.

I managed to come up with a successful, if not quite romantic, V-day gift for dustinw - it's a book called "You Suck!".  Don't worry, I still love him - it's a story about vampires by Christopher Moore.  I'm also preparing to make a cheesey romantic dinner - I got some almost campy red heart shaped spinach and cheese ravioli and found a decent looking sauce that includes bacon.  We're obsessed with bacon at the moment - probably awful for all the sodium and our wastelines, but oh well.  I'm also going to make raspberry tiramisu since he isn't a fan of coffee or coffee flavoured things.  I thought that substituting raspberries for espresso was my brilliant idea, but when I looked it up I found dozens of recipes.  Too bad, but very convenient!

Next week we're starting a Stitch 'n Bitch in our grad pub.  So far there are exactly 2 of us coming, but hopefully more people will see our posters and randomly show up.  I'm trying to decide on a new project to start.  My cousin is pregnant with twins and I have a pattern for a really cute hat with bunny ears, but it might be too hard for me yet (I've yet to try circular knitting).  Then again, it's probably not that tough and I do have instructions...

I'm also preparing a bunch of songs to sing and accompany myself of piano for Battle of the Bards.  I don't think I actually intend to do it (I'm still weird about singing in public and even worse about playing on my own), but it seems like a worthy goal to get ready.  Right now I'm working at "Peach Plum Pear" by Joanna Newsom, "Breathe - 2am" by Anna Nalick, and the Gary Jules (Donny Darko) cover of Mad World by Tears for Fears.  I'm also goofing around with a bunch of Tori Amos stuff, but it's a lot more difficult to play to speed.

I'm going to go and brave the crazily freezing weather outside now to obtain groceries and start my tiramisu, and then hopefully accomplish some reading.  No more procrastinating, I swear!
