I've been bad and not posted for over a month - sorry :-) I guess lots of stuff has happened since my last post:
Agile Like This rocked the Jane Bond, which was a lot of fun and I didn't screw up half as much as I did during our first show, so that was a relief.
I'm trying very hard to prepare an outline for my comprehensive exam, but since I like making life difficult, I changed my topic a few days ago. Actually, the broad topic is the same (complex systems & environmental governance), but the project is now quite different. It will make my life easier in the long run though. Maybe in the short term too since I was having trouble writing my proposal before and its easier now. Of course, I added a whole new area of literature review, which is a pain. sigh.
I got suckered into sitting on yet another board - this time as VP Finance for the Laurier Grad Students Association. The organization needs some work to get on track, which is also sucking up my time, but I'm really enjoying working with the administrators at the university. I'm still thinking that university administration would be a good career for me - maybe something that involves part teaching part admin, or starting off in teaching and then moving into admin (like an associate dean or something). It lets me combine my love of the institution with the fact that I actually enjoy running organizations, even though they're always frustrating. One cool thing that happened recently through the GSA - I got to interview 2 candidates for President of the university (how's that for things to do in your first week?). We got to give feedback on the candidates and the one I preferred magically got hired, so I'm really excited about working with him next year. I was sure that they would never take him because he was too nice and seemed so genuine and, well, academic (and because he was involved in the Berger inquiry, but I know that nobody else cares about that).
I've also decided to work really hard on becoming a decent piano player since I never took it seriously enough to get good in my youth. And thanks to some recent enthusiasm on dustinw's part, we're goofing around on recorders alot, which is also fun and making me feel musical.
I'm heading home tomorrow and looking forward to spending Christmas with my family. I hope everyone else out there has a wonderful holiday too!
