We're lucky now. Our next door neighbor works at a garage in town, and he has inspected our car for us for the last 2 years. He makes sure the true safety issues are in check, and then slaps a sticker on. Thank God. Inspection can be a bitch!

Good lord, sounds like someone was itching for a sale. My older brother has worked on cars nearly all his life and he says shit like this happens all the time and they will try their damndest to BS you into a sale. Thankfully he's kind enough to give me advice on my car when I need it, sorry to hear you had to put up with that nimbus.
