Gold Exchange Booster Gold # 39

New Gold Exchange here.

The Gold Exchange: First thing’s first…how many graves does Ted have? For a guy with no actual corpse to bury, he’s got one outside time in the (now-destroyed) Vanishing Point and one here…I also feel like we’d seen one before that people pointed at when they were saying the Vanishing Point grave was not correct, continuity-wise…and then there’s that big-ass statue J’Onn made during “52″ that’s a monument to fallen Leaguers since the first Crisis.

J.M. DeMatteis: Ted has exactly 462 graves.

I think.
-----------------

I'm such a nerd that I remember this stuff without having to check it. J'onn made statues for all the deceased JLA members (unclear if anyone else knew about them.) This was seen when he was making Booster one besides Teds' statue when Booster faked his death to fool Mr. Mind. I think Gail Simone made a tribute to Ted in BOP first but timeline-wise that take place later. A recton, possibly due to messing with the timeline, had Teds' body buried as Booster comments that the head wound made it a closed casket. After separating the BL ring he takes Teds' body to Vanishing Point where it was buried. The other grave was empty. So to the best of my knowledge there are four tributes to Ted Kord that act like markers not including the Kord Tower Oracle set up.

------------------------

GX: It’s funny-I don’t think we’ve seen the Goldstar suit’s magnetic properties used in a while, other than in that obtuse kind of “using magnetism to fly and repel objects” way.

JMD: You’ll see Michelle/Goldstar in action again very soon.

------------------------

Has she flown recently? The last time I remember that was in the ignored Starro arc but that one didn't get her power set. I just hope Michelle has more to her character than berating her brother and wanting to be a mom for some reason.
--------------------------

GX: Speaking of-how does our baddie know Booster as Michael Jon Carter? He’s historically been pretty hardcore about protecting that detail so nobody can go back (forward) in time and smother him in his crib.

JMD: As we’ll soon see, somebody’s been hacking into Rip Carter’s database.
--------------------------

Rip Carter? Y'know I'm a little confused with all the breaking into Rips' lab--in general not just with these guys. The place is supposed to be near impossible to break into. How are people doing this? Why aren't they setting of the security system that Daniel set off that put him in a time loop?
-------------------------

GX: So…on that final page, is that the Planet of the Apes that happens in the third panel while We’re watching the grave throughout the years?

JMD: No, that’s Kamandi’s era.
------------------------

I know Kamandi was around Final Crisis but I thought that DC retconned him a long time ago. How does he fit with the LOSH?
--------------------------

GX: …And what do you see as the premise of this book? It’s clear that a lot of the elements have changed with you and Keith taking over, and that solicitations have hinted at even more changing soon-so do you have a one-sentence pitch of what this title is under your stewardship, for if I’m trying to explain it to a non-reader?

JMD: Well, on a purely character level, it’s what I said above: this is the journey of a guy who-given his origins-shouldn’t be a hero, Who, on a deep psychological level, doesn’t really believe he’s a hero. Michael Carter’s not Hal Jordan or Bruce Wayne-he’s not a natural-which makes it all the more miraculous that he’s growing into someone who’s as much a genuine hero as they are. In fact, given what he’s been through and how far he’s come, he may be even more of a hero than they are.

And, then, of course, there’s the sheer fun of a guy who can travel through time and be involved in an adventure at any point in history, from the dawn of time to the end of time. It really doesn’t get much cooler than that!
----------------------------

Only point I'd argue with is that he's not a natural at being a hero. No, he's not the typical sort you'd expect but his instincts are usually spot on. This is a guy that on a physical level seamlessly got into the routine. Despite his insecurities he's leading the JLI, figuring out how to stop bad guys, usually without realizing how well he's doing it.

fun stuff
