The show started at two and we (being the Roomie and I) arrived at 1:00 so we could check out the merchandize and find our seats. Normally we sit somewhere in the balcony but because this was Wicked we had my boss (who is a season ticked holder) get us seats on the main floor. We started walking towards our seats and kept on walking. The stage was getting closer and closer when we arrived at our seats we had to double check with the couple sitting in front of us. We were 12 count them 12 rows from the stage and in the middle section. It was AWESOME!!
The roomie had seen Wicked on Broadway but I had never seen the show before. I had known about and had been listening to the soundtrack for years. I think about five or six years to be exact and I have been wanting to see the show ever since but I had always missed I was either in school or in Japan. Therefore, when I found out it was coming to Seattle I jumped on the chance to get tickets.
It was so worth it. I knew the songs, I knew the characters, and I knew the basic story but I had no idea how much I was missing from only knowing the soundtrack. The show is more than just great songs, there are hidden jokes in the dialogue, and so much more to the plot.
The touring company who did the show was amazing. We did not have Donna Vivino (the main person) who was playing Elphaba (the Wicked Witch) instead we had her stand in Merideth Kaye Clark. Merideth Kaye Clark did an amazing job. I was so impressed and was in awe of her singing voice. I thought Chandra-Lee Schwartz, who played Glinda, needed to be a little stronger on some vocals but on Popular, For Good, and What is This Feeling where it really mattered she did an amazing job. Richard H. Blake played Fiyero and I must say that he is a cutie and also very talented. The only person I had a problem with was the actress who played Madame Morrible. It sounded like her voice was going out but with as much singing as the cast does it really isn’t surprising.
Over all Wicked was amazing and I had the best time. It is one of my favorite shows (right up there with Phantom of the Opera). I am going to see if I have another free weekend to head down and check the show out again. I am willing to sit in the back row and watch through binoculars. I just want to see it one more time.
