“Oh, I just can’t wait to be king!”
The roomie and I went to see The Lion King (the Broadway show) today. The costumes were amazing, the makeup was beautiful, and the props were breathtaking. Tears came to my eyes during the opening number, The Circle of Life. I loved that number and He Lives in You, The Lioness Hunt, and Can You Feel the Love Tonight. I wanted a bit more from Hakuna Matata. The woman who played Rafiki had a set of pipes on her, as did the woman played the adult Nala.
We rented binoculars and I am super glad that we did. We were in the second section of the mezzanine and while we had a great view of the stage we were too far away to see the makeup and mask details. With the binoculars we were able to see everything.
The audience was great and the kids who were watching really seemed to enjoy it. The was clapping after every number. The crowd gave a standing ovation at the end of the show complete with whistles and shouts. The show is on my top five favorite Broadway shows (number three or four…I haven’t decided yet). I would recommend it to anyone who wants to see a great show.
After the show we walked around Pike’s Place Market. We didn’t do any shopping it was more of a stroll to stretch our legs before getting on the bus to head home.
