Christmas Lessons and Tin Man

CHRISTMAS LESSONS! That is what I am doing at the elementary schools. I had my first day of solid Christmas lessons and it went very well. The fifth and sixth graders at Ami Daiichi are starting to pick up English words rather fast and because I see them twice a month the English lessons are starting to take a fun tone. The students love to tease me and I enjoy teasing them back. We did a Bingo game and the Christmas basket game.

The words of the day were “holly” as in “Holly Potter” pronounced “Harry Potter” and “Toys” as in “Toys ‘R Us” which the students loved to say. For some reason one of the students decided to name his Elf card (in the Christmas basket game) Jackie Chan.

Fifth period was the parents visit and I think it went really well. The homeroom teacher loves to play the games with his students and he made sure that he knew the lesson plan and was able to help me out when I needed it. I think the parents were also impressed with how much their kids remembered. I had five minutes left of the period so I ran the students through the questions we have learned this year: “Do you like apples?” “Where are you from?” “Who is he?” and “Can you fly?”. The majority of the students were able to answer the questions and the homeroom teacher translated the questions and answers so the parents could understand what was going on.
I finished my Jodi P book during sixth period. The next entry is a review of the book. When I got home from work, I decided to give the Tin Man a try. It is the Scifi channels updated version of The Wizard of Oz. It is a three part miniseries and I was impressed with the first part. It is different from the movie (and the book) but at the same time, I was going “Oh that is _____this part.” I like the acting and the special effects are amazing.
