I called home yesterday to talk to my brother about his prom. He rented a limo with a group of friends and they all took their dates to a nice restaurant. Ben was also on prom court! Here was our conversation:
Ben: Moan...What?
Erin: Ben? Did I wake you up? It is seven at night!
Ben: Yes, I am tired.
Erin: Was prom fun?
Ben: Yes. Mumble
Erin: Was the after party fun?
Ben: Yes.
Erin: Am I going to get more information out of you?
Ben: Can I go back to sleep?
Erin: I love you. Give the phone to dad.
Ben: Love you too. Mumble, shuffle, DAD!
Well, judging from that conversation prom was a blast. Dad and Penny sent me pictures and I am hoping that the boy will too. He looked great in his tux and his date looked amazing. He did not win prom king but one of his friends did. I am planning on calling back at a later date once he has had time to recover and when I can get more information out of him.
I also got some news from Penny. Turns out that one of my childhood friends, Andy is now a daddy. His fiancé gave birth to a lovely baby girl on Sunday. The baby’s name is Drew Rayann and from the pictures that I have seen, she is adorable. Congratulations to Andrew and Shannon!
Yesterday was beautiful! The sun was shining, the sky was a bright blue, and it was in the sixties. I called Andrea up and asked if she wanted to grab a bento (lunch box) and head over to the windmill park for a couple of hours. She was all for it so we headed out.
We spread out our blankets, ate our lunch, read some of our books, and people watched.
Andrea and I were not the only ones who had the idea to spend part of the day at the park. Kids were riding their bikes around, throwing footballs, and eating ice creams. Moms and Dads were playing catch with their young children, flying kites, or playing games of tags. Couples were walking dogs and strolling hand in hand. It was a great day for people watching. One nice woman even let us pet her dog.
At one point, I burst out laughing because I saw some kid walking around with his friends in a Scream mask. He must have heard me because he and his friends walked right past Andrea and I and shouted “Hello” at us. Andrea and I said “Hello” back and then started laughing. Looking back, I wish I would have stopped them and taken a picture because it was a sight to see.
After the park we headed out to Kasumi to do some food shopping. Last week we found Johnsonville Brats. I made Andrea try them because I did not want to be disappointed, she said they were good, and I picked some up this week. We decided to have steak, mushrooms, onions, bean sprouts, and peppers fried up together for dinner along with homemade mash potatoes. We also picked up some cheese for crackers and another bottle of wine.
Dinner was good, the mash potatoes turned out well and the meat was pretty good too. We watched the last of our Nora Roberts’ made for TV movie Blue Smoke. In my mind, this was the worst of the four movies. I did not like the book and I felt that the movie left too much out. The movie only had the killer make one threatening phone call where he told her he was going to burn down a house. In the book, he did this repeatedly. I also was not a huge fan of the lead male. In the novel he called the main female lead “Dream girl” and as a bit scary when he found out the girl of his dreams was moving in next door. They cut out the “Dream Girl” bit and played down his “I have been in love with you for years” speech and the meeting with her mother. However, for an hour and half movie I guess it was ok. I still think it would have been better for them to make one full-length movie that would have covered more of a book instead of the four movies that were an hour and half long.
