It was an Andrea and Erin Day yesterday and a girl’s day at that! Our first stop was at a hair salon where we made an appointment to get our haircut. We had three hours to kill so we went to the mall in Tsukuba because I needed to get some stationary. The Loft is a store that is filled with so many cute items it is hard to focus on getting what you need instead of buying a ton of cute things that you really do not need. I found some great stationary and Andrea checked out the traditional Japanese lunch boxes and we both loved the computer smiley face coffee cups that the loft had.
Our second stop was at The Gap. Normally I have a horrible time finding anything that I like but luck was on my side and I got a new bright red poke-a-dot dress, four new tan tops, and three new summer long sleeve shirts. Andrea was awesome and had me looking at adding color to my wardrobe…something that I am horrible with. Not much color was added but we tried.
Shopping at The Gap was awesome because instead of having Andrea run back and get different sizes the clerks do that for you. After you try on an outfit they will ask if the size is ok. If it isn’t they will run and find you a better size. I think that they got a kick out of Andrea and I because a couple of the outfits that I tried on were horrible and the two of us would either make some weird comment “You look like a melon” or “I look like a boxer” which was then followed by some fun boxing movements.
The third portion of our mall experience was at the foreign food store. I stocked up on A&W root beer and spaghetti sauce. Andrea got the makings for ‘smores and then we both chipped in for a bottle of red wine. The prices are a bit expensive but root beer floats are a must have in the summer.
On our way to the hair salon the weather turned horrible. The rain started coming down and just as we pulled into the parking lot it started to hail. Halfway through our haircuts the sky went pitch black…it looked like it was midnight instead of 3:30pm. It was a bit freaky.
The service at the salon was great. They take good care of us and the owner knows how to speak English and cut foreigners hair. I had a bit of a problem with my cut because I went short (to my ears) and they had a hard time understanding that I wanted it to be short. Eventually Andrea took over the explanations and I got the cut that I wanted.
My hair is once again short and I love it. The long hair was just not me. The minute I stepped out of the salon I said “I feel like Erin again.” It is amazing how a different hairstyle can change your attitude. Andrea got some layers added to her hair which makes her hair really curly and she even went with some bangs with the cut. I like it.
After the salon, I took an hour nap, ate dinner, and then Andrea came over and we opened our wine, made some ‘smores, and watched two movies. The first one was a Nora Roberts’ made for TV movie that aired on Lifetime. It was based off of her book Angel’s Falls and it was ok. Lifetime made four of her books into movies and each movie was an hour and half long. I would have rather had them make one movie that was a full length movie because they had to leave a ton of stuff out. The second movie we watched was The First Wives Club. That movie is just fun and I adore the actors. Andrea and I said goodnight at around 10:00pm.
