Happy Feet

The PTA visit for the term was on Sunday so I had to work. I taught one class but I managed to get most of my Hokkaido vacation planned out! Seeing has how I worked on Sunday, I had Monday off.

Monday was a lazy day and I was happy to enjoy it. Skype was busy with phone calls from Japan to America. I talked to Christy, Julie, and Chenthuran on the phone so that was wonderful. It is always fun to catch up with all the news and to hear what they have been up to. Christy survived her first tax season, Julie is working on her wedding plans, and Chenthuran is busy with work and school.

My package came from amazon.com yesterday. It contained Happy Feet, The First Wives Club, Sense and Sensibility, and In Her Shoes. I watched Happy Feet for the first time. It was a cute movie but at a couple of points the movie felt a little preachy. I agree with the ‘save the animals’, ‘don’t pollute’, and ‘don’t over fish’ ideas but at a couple of points I found myself thinking, “I get it already.” Even with those thoughts, I liked how the movie had a serious subject but it used the movie in a way to educate children on the matter. I am sure some child right now is saying “Cut up the plastic can holders Mom, what if it gets wrapped around a penguin?” or “Wait, where did that fish come from? Will the penguins still have enough to eat?” The movie was fun and educational that is hard to do.
The songs were great and I was impressed with the animation (the tap dancing was awesome!). There was some adult humor mixed in with the humor for the kids, my neighbors are probably annoyed with me because I burst out laughing at a couple of points at 11:00pm. Oh, can I have a penguin for Christmas?
