The weekend, Kimi wa Petto, and being addicted to Grey's

After the exhausting week, I enjoyed relaxing during the weekend. On Friday night, the girls came over and we watched Grey’s Anatomy. What an episode!

I know that some people are placing blame on Christina for Burke doing surgeries even though his hand is not recovered. In my mind, Christina is doing what she can to protect Burke and while she played a large role in getting him back to work, it is ultimately Burke’s responsibility to stop operating. There is a reason that Burke is the surgeon and Christina is the intern. He is supposed to be teaching her and not using that as cover when his arm gets shaky.

How cute were Izzie and Alex in the episode? Erin thinks that Izzie and Alex were hilarious. Erin also thinks that Izzie and Alex would make a wonderful couple; Erin has fallen in love with Evil Spawn.

I have a theory on George’s dad and I am not going to share but I will let you know if my theory was right. Callie was great in explaining to the brother’s what had happened to their father and I also think that she and George need to get their heads out of their butts and start dating again. Is it is just me or did George grow a bit of a backbone in this episode. I like the fact that he looked at Callie and reminded her that she was the one who broke up with him.

I think there is going to major trouble in next week’s episode, which Sarah told me will be a two-hour special! I cannot wait.

On Saturday, I cleaned. I mean I cleaned. Three loads of laundry, I dusted, vacuumed, and I even waxed the floor. I made Andrea come over and watch anime so I would have someone in the apartment while I cleaned. All of the furniture was moved and the evil dust bunnies are done for at least a little while.

After I finished cleaning it was time to head to The Hub. Katie, Andrea, and I left Ami at about 6:00 and met up with Jana (who had been in Tokyo). We had a great time eating fish and chips and just talking. The bar wasn’t too crowded it so it was a nice place just to hang out.

We have realized that if we don’t talk about work our conversation seems to always be about Grey’s Anatomy. We talked about the upcoming episode and we picked our favorite guys. McVet and McDreamy are in the lead. George had a vote and I voted for Evil Spawn. We have decided that McSteamy should be named McSlutty. We are all curious about where his character is heading. I might change his name to McAss if he does at least get a bit of a heart. I have decided that we really need a life, it is wrong how addicted we are to this show. But really, I see these girls almost every day, we don’t have much to talk about when we go out because we have discussed it the day before.

I should state that we are not the only ones who are addicted. When Katie calls home she and her sister always talk about Grey's. It is the same when I call Julie and Christy. We always talk about the show, it doesn't matter if we haven't talked in a month, Grey's is always the first or second thing that we talk about. Most of the conversation that Sarah and I have on Facebook is about Grey's. It is nice to have people back home who want to talk about the show, it makes me feel closer to home.

On Sunday, Andrea took me to the eye doctor and I got new contacts. After that we ate lunch and went shopping. Ok, I have found the coat of my dreams. It is a cream colored, double breasted, pea coat, and it is 7,900 yen. (80 dollars) I am really thinking of buying it. It will be the most I have spent on a single piece of clothing in the last four years but I think it is worth it. Jana is going to head over on Thursday to check out the coat with me and if we both like it, we are both going to buy one in different colors.

Japanese class went really well on Sunday. I was the only one in my class so I got a private lesson on short form. It was great, the teacher seemed impressed with how hard I was trying to understand what was going on and he really took the time to explain to me how to use and when to use short form.

I studied short form in Beloit but I haven’t used it since then because the only person I would even be able to use short form with is Hiromi and she is still above me in interTalk so I am not too sure if it is ok to use it with her. I am going to ask her if she will let me practice short form with her.

Short form is casual speak. According to my chart, you use it when you are speaking to someone younger, someone subordinate, someone about the same age, an intimate person, or a family member. The form allows you feel intimate and closer to a person but if you use it with the wrong person it comes across as rude and impolite.

Something that we did not cover at Beloit was that males and females speak differently when using short form and it tends to be a big difference. I think this is one reason that I am having problems understanding my students. They are speaking with different endings depending on their sex. Needless to say, when I left class my head was hurting from the lesson.

I spent the rest of Sunday relaxing and finishing up Kimi wa Petto. I found the drama to be cute and I liked the ending. While the show was cute, it is not one of my favorites. I that that Matsumoto Jun played Momo really well but I would have enjoyed getting more background on him. The lead female didn't grown on me. But there is only so much you can do when a show is 10 episodes long. I thought the secondary cast stories were badly written and could have been developed a lot more. What was up with the shrink? He was a character I would have left off the show, along with the dude who has an obsession with his comb. Really, those two characters had no reason to be in the show. It was fun to watch but I don’t think it is going to make on my favorites list.
