my RA puts up a bi-weekly calendar of events related to the house and the residents. in response to the newest one, one of my drawmates sent the following email to the house list:
I would like to inform my fellow residents of a grievous error of a magnitude which is rarely witnessed. At the bottom of the most current putrefaction spewed from Dana’s computer lies a reference to “Persian” as a linguistic entity, innocuously hidden amidst the usual ho-hum (no offense Abe, see below). Not only is this completely erroneous and demeaning to one of the greatest empires in ancient history (the correct term for the language of Persia, and the language that nuclear missile-mongering mullahs speak, is Farsi), it is perhaps the apical instance of inescapable cultural insensitivity and denigration. Do I call English “Anglo-Saxonese”?
No.
