Quite a jolly 'oliday, this was. Pure middleschool fun. After a three hour coaching session at Covington, I called Katie Rupe and we went to see the Berkshire musical Once Upon a Mattress. It was Wonderful. I'd forgotten how much I like that show and the production was shockingly good. They have a new director and the staging, scenery and costumes were all just grand. Kayla Fricks sister, Kristen, was outstanding as Fred. It was special for me because I directed her in a Jekyll and Hyde multiple when she thought she couldn't sing and here she was being the fabulous star of the show. Highly recommended.
I saw Leah's mom there, so surreal. I think one of the things missed most when a long term relationship ends are your lover's parents. Because we fall in love with them too. All these memories came back of her teaching me how to reupholster furniture, and how we would always sit around and laugh together when Leah was mad at me. (She was/is hilarious) So I saw her and we hugged and she asked my how I was and obviously unable to connect the present with the year since we last spoke, I made a sort of helpless gesture near my head and blurted, "GOOD!" We share a knowing look and laughed, I sat back down. We'll never be close like we were again.
Then a splendid evenin' with Ms. Rupe. We haven't seen each other since the summer, but with us it's always honest and fun.
Quotes keep popping in my mouth, so I'll hang them here.
