when does basketball season start?
Football has officially made me depressed. Here are the scores from yesterday:
BYU 38 USU 0
Washington St. 36 Stanford 10
The thought entered my mind that I could adopt North Carolina as a football team, but that wouldn't be much better:
Clemson 52 UNC 7
Utah State is now 0-4, and they've been outscored 144-7 in these four games. (And the touchdown that they did score was off of an interception. Yikes! I think there's a very good chance that USU is the worst D1A football team in the country this year.) Stanford is also 0-4, and the only game where they even came close was against San Jose State (perennially one of the worst teams in the country). UNC is only 1-3, but that's not as good as it looks. Their only win was a 45-42 win was over D1AA Furman; they got crushed by all three D1A teams that they've played this year.
Luckily, UNC gets to play Duke this year, so they should finish the year with at least one D1A win. Utah State... Gosh... I think they'll be lucky to win a game this year. You know, I'm almost to the point where I'm hoping that USU doesn't win a game this year. Or better yet, doesn't even score this year. Maybe we can do what the fans at Northwestern did a few years back after they had their third straight winless season in a row (or something like that)... After they lost their last game of the year, the fans stormed the field, tore down both goal posts, and started a huge party in the middle of campus while chanting, "WE'RE THE WORST! WE'RE THE WORST!" It would be kind of cool if they did that at Utah State.
Seriously, isn't this a little weird? All three schools that I've been affiliated with have terrible football teams and excellent basketball teams... At far as I'm concerned, basketball season can't start soon enough...
(I guess anyone who's going to Chapel Hill can't complain too much about sports... The last I checked, UNC is the oddsmakers' favorite to win the national championship in basketball this year. Even if they don't win a championship, I hope we can beat Duke. I saw some pictures of the celebration that occurred the last time UNC beat Duke. Basically, the police close down main street so that everyone in town can have a huge party. Looks like fun. Maybe not quite as much fun as tearing down both goal posts while chanting, "WE'RE THE WORST!" but still pretty fun. :-) )
