when night owls get married

I'm a night owl. I'm actually a pretty bad night owl. I rarely go to bed before like 1am or 2am (and sometimes not until much later). I've dreaded 9am classes my whole life, and trying to work 9 to 5 has just about killed me. (Heck, it's one of the reasons that I'm planning on getting a new job.)

Before I got married, my family and friends always assumed that my night owl tendencies would drive my wife crazy. Now that I am married, at least two people have asked me what Aryn thinks about my sleeping habits and if I'm going to bed earlier now that I'm married. Before anyone else asks that question, I have a story to tell.

Last night I finally went to bed around 2am. I kept telling Aryn that I needed to go to sleep, because I had an early meeting today, but we ended up talking until 2am. However, Aryn wasn't tired enough to sleep yet, so she said that she'd join me in bed "in a few minutes."

Well, I woke up for my meeting, and I noticed that Aryn wasn't in the bed. All kinds of horrible thoughts immediately popped into my head. "What if she went outside to put something in the washer and got kidnapped on the way back? What if she hurt herself in the bathroom and is lying there injured or dead? What if she decided this whole marriage thing wasn't such a great idea and run back to Pasadena?"

I ran out into the living room, and there Aryn was... Lying on the couch, reading. She hadn't gone to bed yet. When I walked into the room, she said, "Oh my gosh! Are you up already?"

Yeah, I guess maybe my sleep habits do drive my wife crazy. I go to bed way too early for her. :-)
