Battle LA: Marines versus Aliens

Mar 03, 2011 22:41

Some of you have probably heard of this movie coming out soon: Battle LA. Hmm, Marines versus Aliens... does Haikujaguar know about this?

The plot is basic and quickly explained: a Marine company in and around LA is celebrating some downtime when meteors begin striking off the coast. The meteors turn out to be alien power-armor troops who are launching an invasion, hitting every major coastal city on the planet with an army over 30 million strong. Why land in water? Because that way they can get the troops in from low orbit without having them turn into pancakes when they hit the ground.

The aliens are here for colonization, which seems to translate as "kill everything that moves and destroy all structures we see", which seems like an odd way to go about colonizing (heck, even the Belgians in the Congo used at least some natives as local troops and workers!)

According to what's been said so far, the movie is trying very hard to avert Hollywood tactics, with the aliens doing things like setting up deliberate killing zones which they lure the humans into for the slaughter (and the Marines turning the trick around on them).

Thus far this looks like it'll be a good movie, something worlds apart from, say, 'Avatar'. If someone here sees it first let us know how it goes, eh?
