Gilbert Gottfried? Not with Del Toro at the helm. That has to be a rumor.

Last I heard, the top pick for Smaug was Christopher Lee.

It's not a rumor. Del Toro had quit because of all the snags that's been plaguing the film and stalled filming it. I read it in the newspaper Friday.

Hasn't there also been some mess about Peter Jackson not getting paid the full amount he was promised for the LOTR movies?

Yeah, there was something about that. I have no idea how (or if) it's been resolved.

Be a bit odd to hear Saruman's voice coming from Smaug -- but I admit, he'd still be a great choice!
