Twice (three times, actually) today a teacher of mine decided that we should take time to talk about the recent death to avoid being disrespectful. I agreed with both. It'd be repulsive to read the paper about the girl's death and then launch into the daily curriculum (ironically enough, happiness. Kinda put a damper on the class). However, it's mildly difficult to discuss something no one has any information about it. The most meaningful thing that was said on the subject was 'she was nice'. The rest was speculation about drug usage, party safety, depression, etc. It's not that talking about those things is bad, it's that these topics were brought up to test the waters in the hopes that those who do know what happened will jump in and confirm it or something. Personally, I think it was drug related, due to the family's wish for privacy.
